S.T.E.M. 2021/2022

Science:

Watch the video below to give you a little flavour of some of the Science activities that pupils engaged in during this school year so far. Later in May we will have an onsite visit from the Rediscovery Centre. They will do two workshops with our pupils, one on "Transport of the Future" and the other on "Plastic Problems".

Maths:

  • We engaged with many online and onsite activities for Maths Week. 
  • We had Zoom calls with a tutor from Wexford who taught us how the play chess over 6 zoom calls. We will have two more live zoom calls wth this turor in Term three.
  • We focused on the area of problem solving with our partner school Creeslough N.S. (Léargas Peace Shared Education Project). We sent each other photographs of our school environment with Maths Questions based on the photos.
  • We also used our IZAK9 Cubes for active learning problem solving activities.



Engineering

We engaged in many engineering activities during the year and participated in the STEPS Engineers Week.
We took part in a Kahoot Quiz which was run by Intel Ireland during this week.

Technology

We use technology daily to enhance our learning in class.
We had several live online workshops with Microsoft Dreamspace during the year. In one of these we learned to code Arcade Games using MakeCodeArcade. We also had a seesion with them for Safer Internet Day and finally we engaged in their online lessons for using MineCraft Education Edition and took part in the Ireland's Future is Mine competition.
We are currently building and coding a robot and will be taking part in a VEX IQ Robotics competition in Letterkenny Institute of Technology at the beginning of June. Junior Roon pupils also engaged in online safety lessons and made Digi Duck masks.
